Series of Art Quotations: Day One

Today I am starting  a series of posts containing quotations related to the theme of art and artists. The quotations for today and tomorrow are about the role of artists.

The artist must create a spark before he can make a fire and before art is born, the artist must be ready to be consumed by the fire of his own creation.  – Auguste Rodin

The artist is the confidant of nature, flowers carry on dialogues with him through the graceful bending of their stems and the harmoniously tinted nuances of their blossoms. Every flower has a cordial word which nature directs towards him.  – Auguste Rodin

The artist is not a special kind of man, but every man is a special kind of artist. – Ananda Coomaraswamy

An artist is like a prophet. He must lead people and get them acquainted with what he sees. – George Buytendorp

Do you think everyone is an artist in some way? What do you see as the role of artists? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this in the comments.
